Company History
In the 1970's grass roots non-profits began to spring up throughout New York State to address residents' housing needs. In 1980, the State Legislature created the Rural Preservation Program to provide funding for non-profits serving rural areas.
The PCHC is an offshoot of the Housing Task Force appointed by former County Executive Director David Bruen to address Putnam's housing needs. The PCHC was established in 1982 as a Rural Preservation Company (RPC). As an independent, not-for-profit housing organization the PCHC assists residents with their housing needs. The PCHC is funded by the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) and by grants from local, county, state, federal and private levels.
